A great article I ran into:

"One technique that is said to be very useful to online businesses are landing pages. A landing page is a place where a site asks for your information. They use this information to put you on their e-mail list and see what needs of yours they can fulfill. Using landing pages for your own website can be helpful because it allows you to see who is coming to certain pages in your site, who is interested in your product, and most importantly, it creates leads for them to be a future customer. Sometimes a landing page is done poorly in the form of a pop up that usually annoys users. Most of the time a user will just click away and avoid the pop up. HubSpot has written an e-book on how to create a successful landing page. By offering some type of free material, then asking a user for their basic information in order to receive it, they have created a landing page. The website collects information, and you receive free material you're interested in. The trick is coming up with something people would be willing to give their information for. If you are a small company it might be as basic as offering a free trial of your product. For larger companies, it can be an e-book or webinar. Once you've created a valuable offer, make it available to users so you can turn these leads into valuable customers. Have you ever tried creating a landing page? What successful content have you used to get people to sign up?"
